SDSC War Studies Seminar: 75th Anniversary of the battle for Milne Bay

A special War Studies Seminar remembering the 75th Anniversary of the battle for Milne Bay. This special seminar coincides with the death of Private Clark Davis Ivins, who died of wounds received at the Battle of Milne Bay in Papua New Guinea in 1942. Private Ivins was shot by Japanese sniper fire during the Australian counterattack in the early hours of 31 August 1942. The Hon Brendan Nelson AO BMBS FRACP (Hon) FAMA, Director of the Australian War Memorial will open this special event. Lecture presentation by Emeritus Professor David Horner. Professor David Horner is an Emeritus Professor in the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, Australian National University, where he was Professor of Australian Defence History for fifteen years. A graduate of the Royal Military College, he served as an infantry platoon commander in the Vietnam War. He is the author or editor of some 33 books on Australia military history, defence and strategic studies. In 2004 he was appointed Official Historian of Australian peacekeeping, humanitarian and post-Cold War operations, and is the general editor of this six-volume series. He was also the official historian of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, a three-volume series. His volume, The Spy Catchers, was joint winner of the Prime Minister’s Literary Award and winner of the UK intelligence book of the year for 2014.
